Metro Stations do not fall short in comparison with the airports when it comes to topics such as standards of safety, security or civic behaviour rules. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has mentioned that it is committed to provide highest standards of safety to its passengers, in return the DMRC also expects the passengers to follow the civic behaviour rules set by it.
The rules made are common in all the metro rail networks in the country. You may end up paying a penalty or even be imprisoned for non-compliance of these rules as mentioned. As in the case of Airports, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which is a central armed police force under the Ministry of Home Affairs, is an incharge of the safety and security of the Metro Stations as well.
Do’s and Don'ts at the Metro Station-
To always stand in a queue when buying tokens from the counters, boarding the Metro or for security check by the CISF personnel.
To use dustbins for garbage and litter disposals.
To make way for physically or visually challenged passengers.

To offer seats to physically challenged and senior citizens in the coach.
To let the passengers from the metro to alight first.
To mind the gap between the platform and the train while boarding or deboarding the train.

Bringing pets in the Metro Stations or coaches is not permitted.

Penalties for breaking rules-
If travelling without a ticket, a fine of Rs.50 would be charged.
Any kind of drunken behaviour, vandalism, indecency, use of offensive and abusive language would be punishable with a fine extending up to Rs 500
Putting posters without lawful authority or defacing metro premises or trains would cause penalties such as imprisonment extending up to 6 months or fine up to Rs1000
If found walking on the railway tracks without lawful authority an imprisonment of up to a period of 6 months or a fine up to Rs 500 or both.
If found carrying dangerous weapons, offensive and banned material on the metro rail, the act is punishable with imprisonment extending up to 4 years and a fine upto Rs5000.
If found damaging metro boards or documents, such an act would be punishable with imprisonment up to a period of 2 months or penalty of Rs250.
Conclusion
Metro Stations are a public property and it is the duty of every passenger to maintain it. One cannot expect the authorities to maintain such public places when they are the ones acting irresponsibly. Such behaviour could only be called childish and selfish. Hence, the commuters themselves should understand their responsibility towards these stations.
