Legal Remedies against Cyber Crimes-

As technology advancement is still going on, cyber crimes are still being recognised by the respective authorities, many domains of cyberbullying are yet to be found out. The awareness of the concept of cybercrime is still in its budding stage.

Generally referred to as the Cyberlaw, the Act by the legislation to recognise various cyber acts as crimes is known as Information Technology Act, 2000, the Act was later updated in the year 2008. The Act provides sanctions and compensation for offences related to technology. Thus, a victim of cyberbullying can seek remedies through the provisions established under the IT Act, 2000. Some of the provisions of the Act have been mentioned as under-

Section 43A of the Act, provides the victim the opportunity to file a case in the court of law for compensation against the harm done to him by offenses such as, “damage to computer, computer system, or computer networks”.

Section 65 of the Act provides for the penalties for the act of “tampering with computer source documents”

There are, however, various loopholes in the Act as there are cyber crimes which are still coming to the knowledge or some crimes which the law needs to be upgraded so as to provide proper compensation or justice to the victim.

There are some cyber offenses which are not governed under the IT Act, for example, the crime of ‘cyber defamation’ which shall be governed under the IPC, 1860.
